Projects

26 March 2007 - 15:27yes we are still here

family

we have to move house this month. our landlady has decided that she wants to move back into her house, so she gave us notice a few weeks back. other than having to move, the frustrating part is that everything we are finding available for rent is about twice the amount we currently pay. apparently housing prices have skyrocketed over the course of this last year.

mary is making music. my wife decided at the beginning of the month to start working on producing some peace songs for Southern Sudan. there is an agency here in Nairobi that runs a radio service for sudan and they have agreed to provide her with some funding for the project. She is hoping to have it finished in the next few weeks and if I can figure out the technical parts I’ll try to post some music for your listening pleasure.

finding a permanent job has still been rather illusive. mary and i have managed to do a few small things here and there that have helped to keep food on our table, but it has been a bit of a struggle.

Otherwise the family is doing very well. Abarizaa is getting big. I hadn’t realized how big until I held my 2 week old nephew the other day. Compared to him, Abarizaa feels like a big sack of potatoes. But a beautiful sack none the less. Mushi is doing good as well. She has improved tremendously in school since the end of last year. Although she still hasn’t quite grasped the concept that studying for tests and doing homework fall in the same category. She came home on friday and I spent 10 minutes questioning her about homework and whether she had any. “no, no and no” were her answers. Then about 11 last night I found her awake in her room doing some last minute studying for a test.

sudan

i have been trying to keep up on issues in Sudan. but there are so many of them and they are so diverse, it can get a little confusing some times.

here are some good places to go look at news and information, specifically in relation to southern sudan:

Black Kush - A blogger based out of Juba Sudan.
Aaron Stewart - A blogger working for Medair in Southern Sudan.
The Juba Post - a newspaper based out of Juba.
Gurtong - A website with lots of great info and news on Southern Sudan.
