Big Snakes

Update: didn’t happen in Sudan – happened in South Africa and wasn’t a man but an Impala.  Here is the real story. Still an interesting photograph.
A friend in Sudan sent this to me the other day… He claims the incident really happened.  I am rather dubious myself… He said took place sometime in 2007 at [...]

Protest!!!

My wife and a number of Sudanese women got together on Tuesday and held a demonstration to support  Lubna Hussein and other Sudanese activists fighting for the rights of women in Sudan.
Here is a note she pasted on Facebook in regards to the event:
On Tuesday Sudanese women in Kenya made a demonstration in support of [...]

Lubna who?

Lubna Hussein was arrested in Khartoum, Sudan several weeks back for wearing trousers. Although now the government is saying, “no it wasn’t the trousers, she was just being loud and obnoxious“. Knock it down!

I got to my office a bit late yesterday morning.  I am very happy that I didn’t run a place in the center of the Juba Town market. It was bulldozed down by the government.
Apparently the government is referring to these shops and their owners as squatters.  They say they have taken over the land [...]

Malakal Celebrations?

Mary and I returned to Juba on Tuesday.  In less than 24 hours Mary was able to secure a flight to Malakal to participate in the fourth annual celebration of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) between southerners and the government of the North.   Its a very big event in the social calendar for Southern Sudan [...]
