This issue never got as much attention as it should have. Since 2001 so many boys were rescued from Kakuma, Kenya and taken to the US for resettlement. Many of their sisters and cousins were left behind to suffer in the refugee camps, were married off for dowry or left to fend for themselves. To this day, it still seems strange that they were overlooked the way they were.
This song, “Lost Girls”, was written about these women.
